The 36.1km highway has reached about 80 per cent in construction progress even though activities were halted for over two months during the MCO.

KUALA LUMPUR: The developer of the East Klang Valley Expressway, EKVE Sdn Bhd, has said that the project is on course to be completed by the third quarter of 2021 despite being hampered by the Covid-19 pandemic.

"The remaining 20 per cent of work progress includes bridgework, road pavement, toll collection system, traffic control surveillance system, toll plaza building and street lighting, among others," said a company spokesman. "To date, the total number of construction workers at site is 350. We are gradually increasing the number of workers in order to expedite construction works. We will share more news in due course," he said.

The expressway will act as an alternative route to the Middle Ring Road 2 by providing bypasses for north-south bound traffic without traffic entering the Kuala Lumpur city centre, hence reducing congestion.
