George Clooney says cinemas should receive federal aid: 'Hollywood, which everybody loves to crap all over, is one of the largest exporters of original product in the United States... They should be subsidizing the theaters”

”] that was designed to be shown in theaters. The first thing I said to the Netflix guys was “I don’t want anybody to ever say, ‘Stay home from school, don’t go out for dinner, but definitely come to see my movie.’” There’s no reality in it. So the movie is going to come out on Netflix. We told them we’d shoot it in 65mm because it’s night and day when you see it on a giant screen. This particular film is made for that. But if you can’t, you can’t.

The movie industry is going to continue to carry on. Has it created some different viewing habits? A little bit. But you know the film industry survives these things; it always does. And part of it is because we need a collective experience and it’s still a great date night. Dinner and a movie is still pretty great. And kids still like to get in the dark with whoever they’re seeing. They want to get away from their parents. So young people are still going to go to the movies.

[On the whole], it was a terrible year. It started with Kobe Bryant dying and went downhill from there. I remember when Chadwick Boseman died. I didn’t know he was sick. No one knew he was sick, and I remember that gut-punch feeling like this year is just designed to test our mettle and make us wonder when is this going to stop.

Clooney, put your big wallet into the theater. FU.... 🔥🔥🔥🔥💩

Something about MIDNIGHT SKY must trigger the Trumpkins, judging from the huge number of 1 ratings at IMDB. Not sure if it's the interracial marriage or just outspoken Clooney as the star. So I gave it a 10, as did many others and more than cancelled their votes. Losers again! 😜

Should not be tax payers job to save the theaters that play your movies that those tax payers also PAY to see.

Original product? Hollywood? George, didn’t you appear in a remake of Oceans 11 plus two sequels and a near franchise killing instalment of the Batman series? You’re as big a part of the problem as anyone, mate.

MrZMovies How about the 9-digit millionaires keep the inflated industry the work for afloat and let the federal government to continue squeezing the middle class and ignore those in the lower classes who actually need help?

This would be the same Hollywood that bends the knee to Communist China. Let them fail our let the rich hypocrite, sell out, celebrities bail them out BoycottTopGun2 UyghurGenocide FreeHongKong Boycott all films that bend the knee to Communist China

I agree they should get some aid, but some of these multimillionaire actors/producers etc. need to pool their resources too. I remember Black celebs having to help Spike Lee get Malcolm X made.

They definitely should have gotten subsidies instead of JoelOsteen getting money for his church. I want theaters to come back, I miss going. Hell, I won't even be able to see WW 1984 because my theater is closed & I can't afford HBO Max.

How about Clooney ponies up. Id rather the government help families and regular people out of work.

AGREED!!

TVKiese Tell that to the employees of the Ponderosa Steakhouse in Maysville who just saw their jobs dissappear forever. Let the millionaires in Hollyweird subsidize themselves.

Didn’t Clooney “gift” 14 friends with $1 million dollars each? Dude can save theaters himself. I for one will watch theatrical films on HBO Max.

LightHawk8 Just wait until George discovers YouTube and Netflix.

Thanks for speaking up GeorgeClooney for our movie theaters. All performers and venues - screen and live - boost our economy and deserve our support. saveourstages

TVKiese I think we will see a fundamental shift away from theaters. The streaming and TV tech capability is accessible in the home. Just like the music and television industry had to pivot to streaming models. Theater chains will need to as well. They need to refocus I think.

Well here’s an idea... Maybe theaters are becoming a relic of the past. Streaming and new audio and video devices are leading to new kinds of movies. The revenue will be there for the movie industry. Hollywood will be fine.

Why not get your rich friends together and get them to donate to saving the theaters.

George clooney said what?

Or here’s a wild idea: they could pool their own millions together and provide aid that way

Why can’t the millionaire A-listers contribute ?
