Brian Regan's COVID diagnosis highlights the irresponsibility of comedy clubs running shows during the pandemic--and the whole comedy industry, including the media, are behind these failures.

Perhaps the Improv simply hasn’t contacted every customer yet, and Regan’s fans posed with him at some external location. Even if we grant these possibilities, they still represent huge gaps in its safety protocols, which include 12-foot distancing between tables and mandatory masking when customers aren’t seated.

To state some more of the obvious: comedy clubs are not to blame for messaging failures at the municipal, state, and federal levels. Only a handful of states make contact tracing data public, and this data is generallycontact tracing—how many tracers are employed, how many calls they make, how many people pick up—rather than theof contact tracing. Rogan moved his family and a bunch of his friends to Texas just so he could do stand-up in a club during a pandemic. He had a couple of leading physicians on his podcast explaining Covid, only to dismiss what they said and follow the advice of his comic friends, and Trump.

This guy looks like the “bad version” Mike pence. But yes, I’m aware that Mike pence is the bad Mike pence.

“If touring comics don’t understand the risks of indoor comedy, that means journalists have to inform them. If they don’t care, we have to criticize them. If we don’t make up for the failures that got us here, we’re only entrenching them further. This is no time for fluff.” ☝️
