While it has a less than stellar reputation in many Western countries, spam is beloved in much of Asia, so much so that a company has made a meatless version of it.

, when she was living in Downing Street, Thatcher still bought a can of spam as part of her regular supermarket shop.

To this day in the US, mention of the canned meat can often provoke disgust rather than salivation. Filipina writer Sherina Onghow, as a student at an American university, "any mention of eating spam was met with a grimace and a resounding 'ew, why?!'" "They thought it was kind of crazy that I was eating it," Walker said, adding that she doubted whether any of her colleagues had ever tried it. "My husband and his family also think it's really revolting, they think it's a bit of a joke that I like it.", a Korean chef and food writer based in the south of England.

In Korea, spam is served alongside kimchi and rice, in Budae Jjigae or "army stew," and even given as gifts for Chuseok, the annual harvest festival. Japanese spam dishes include "po-oku tamago," spam and eggs, and the Japanese-Hawaiian "spam musubi," fried spam on top of a rice ball.

Burger King invented a meat free version of spam in Canada

That's like cancer in a can. It contains sodium nitrite. When heated in the presence of amino acids, sodium nitrites can be converted into nitrosamine, a dangerous compound associated with a number of negative health effects. Same as hotdogs dont get them hot or it's a cancer dog

If it's meat free what is the point?

You there is actually meat in SPAM

So pretty much like the regular one

Spam

I love spam. And Klik.

JrSamplesBR549 with fond memories of spam as a teen, I bought a can and made it like in the olden days of yore. It was really gag worthy. Either it changed or I did.

always good to see more meat alternatives

Wait, the real SPAM contains *actual* meat

50% less bat.

I don't mind Spam and it does make the best diced 'ham' sandwiches.

There was meat in Spam?

Yup. Grew up eating fried spam, eggs and garlic fried rice for weekend breakfasts. Or fried spam sandwiches for lunch. I don't make fun of any of you that ate bologna back in the day so don't hate in my spam.

I’ll keep helping Beef Farmers thanks 🥩

I bought my first can of SPAM recently. Gonna try it soon.

I thought ... it already was?

Fried spam with baked mac and cheese.

🤢🤮

It'ss lower quality than repackaged dog food, mixed with processed meat. 🤮

They eat piles of it in Hawaii

It’s popular with Hawaiians. They have it in lots of fast food restaurants....not my fave! 😩

I used to teach kids in Korea. On special holidays they would often give their teachers gifts including the coveted 'gift box of spam'.

No thank you!

Is that what they're using in this?

Is is sawdust? It's gotta be sawdust.

Is it made from compost?

Just NO!

I'm not speaking for all Asian countries but some of them mainly eat heavily seasoned meals 3 times a day. Not so much fresh veggies like a salad. Spam culture is, I think, one of that, salted and seasoned. And easy to just pop it open and eat with rice. No for me.

Mmmmmm..... No thanks

Bat meat.

I'm not sure why the West hates spam so much

I've never tried it
