2 strategies to make your customers fall in love with your company, according to Twitch cofounder Justin Kan

Kimberly White / Stringer / GettyIn Twitch's early days, when the company was still a scrappy tech startup, there wasn't much on the product side that made it stand out from its competitors, according to cofounder Justin Kan.

Kan used to do what he says many in the tech industry avoid: Call up users on the phone. Kan said doing so builds trust with users, and it's a great way to get their unfiltered opinion. "When you're a startup, your edge is that you don't have that many customers," Kan said. "So you can build a really strong relationship with them.", a podcast in which he interviews business founders about their attempts to become better people.

Phone conversations are useful for two reasons, Kan said. Not only are they a good way to get unfiltered feedback on your startup; they also help build a sense of trust with customers. "If you have a problem with Google, you will never talk to a human being," Kan said. "You'll go look online to deal with it. And people hate that."
