Opinion | 'Ghost guns' are becoming a huge problem and credit card companies can help stop them from spreading. By shannonrwatts

brought by Everytown and several cities to force federal action, the city of Los Angeles disclosed this week that in 2020 police there have recovered more than 600 ghost guns, at least 231 of which were used in serious or violent crimes. The San José Police Department, for its part, seized 142 ghost guns during criminal investigations between January 2015 and April 2020 — nine during homicide investigations.

Last year, a ghost gun was used in an ambush shooting of two LA County Sheriff's deputies, and the shooter who opened fire at Saugus High School used a ghost gun to kill two students and wound three others. Ghost guns and crime go hand in hand; they are ideally suited for criminals seeking to avoid scrutiny and in need of an untraceable firearm. Ghost guns are undermining our country's laws and our communities' safety, and we are paying the price of inaction with American lives.

The ATF raid was an important step, but the agency has far more to do. Until it asserts full regulatory authority over this dangerous and illegal end-run around our gun safety laws, we need to fight the problem on every front, and that means declining to process payments for illegal and dangerous ghost gun kits.

Fortunately, there is a clear roadmap for them to do so. After the New York Times reported this month that the adult website Pornhub contained videos depicting illegal acts, Visa and MasterCard announced that they would no longer allow the use of their credit cards on the site, citing company policies that block unlawful transactions.

shannonrwatts How about the government focus on violent crime reduction by uplifting people? Violent crimes are done a reason. many of those reasons can be solved through improving people's social economic positions. Gun control is an old idea. Like Banning drugs and long prison sentences.

shannonrwatts actually ran this article? Yoy guys do realize that no one actually refers to these things as 'ghost guns' right? This is just another nonsense term the gun grabbers made up to sound scary...

shannonrwatts Yes, sounds like a GREAT idea to start having credit companies deny services based on a social score. Couldn't see that ever going wrong... 🇨🇳 Unrelated: does cover business at all? Your entire feed is all anti-Trump politics. No wonder nobody reads your posts.

shannonrwatts No one buys these old relics. They print new ones.

shannonrwatts Janie's got a gun Her whole world's come undone From lookin' straight at the sun What did her daddy do? What did he put you through?
