A Darwin mobile crane hire company faces up to $3 million in penalties after an electrical switchboard weighing almost two tonnes toppled back onto two workers, leaving one of them in a critical condition.NT Worksafe has alleged A.M. Cranes & Rigging had no safe system of work in place despite high risk
One employee of A.M. Cranes & Rigging was pinned under the switchboard, but was able to be freed by other workers at the site. The charges relate to breaches of workplace health and safety laws that allegedly resulted in the injuries to both men.A statement from NT Worksafe said their investigation found A.M. Cranes & Rigging did not have a safe system of work in place despite "the high risk of serious injury or death if the switchboard toppled".
Three workers then attempted to manually move it over a cable pit covered by a checker plate, when it fell backwards.
