Vizio went public on Thursday as one of the biggest manufacturers of television sets in North America. But the company is looking to a future in the streaming ads that appear on those sets, too.

Vizio Holding Corp.’s shares closed about 9% below their initial public offering price on the first day of trading—in a sign investors may need some convincing that the television maker can successfully expand in streaming TV and digital advertising.

Sale of TV sets dominates Vizio’s business, with the company’s devices business comprising nearly $1.9 billion of its $2.04 billion total net revenue last year. In its online roadshow, Vizio presented new numbers to back up its case that the smaller business line is a key segment in the future of the company.
