Pangilinan recalled the lament of hog raisers that they were not consulted by the government in deciding to reduce the tariffs and increase the minimum access volume for pork imports.
“We believe the President is not deaf and blind to the woes of our local hog raisers. If he talks to them, he would see the reality on the ground,” he added. The Department of Agriculture , on the other hand, insisted that it consulted local stakeholders before forwarding to Duterte its recommendations to lower the pork tariffs and raise the MAV.
Senate President Vicente Sotto III said on Friday, April 16, that the President may have been misinformed into allowing the lowering of the tariffs and increasing the volume of imported pork.
