The chief executive of coronavirus vaccine maker Novavax has admitted the company will have to delay filing for approvals of the product until July and will not put a date on when the vaccine is likely to receive the green light in Australia.which had been expected to start being delivered as early as September this year.

“We expect to complete our regulatory filings in the third quarter.” The third quarter of the US corporate year begins in July. “We know that we are delayed from where we thought we’d be at this point. But now we’re giving guidance that nearly all of the major challenges have been overcome and we can clearly see the light at the end of the tunnel,”A phase 2 study of the vaccine in the UK showed 96 per cent effectiveness against the original strain of COVID-19 and 86 per cent against the UK variant of the virus. The company expects to release data from its US phase 3 trial of the vaccine “in a few weeks”, Mr Erck said.
