The federal government has announced $3.4 billion in the 2021 Budget for improving the lives of women, however, half the allocated funds are directed to childcare.

There was $355 million in the budget for women’s health with a national health strategy, funding for infant and stillbirth research, a national endometriosis action plan, and maternal, sexual, and reproductive health programs. Women’s economic security was allocated $1.9 billion with $1.7 billion given to childcare for more than two children.

scholarships were awarded $42 million, with $38 million provided for women’s leadership and development, and $14 million for Indigenous women in business. Labor and the Greens have slammed the government’s decision to include childcare in the women’s portion of the budget, saying childcare is a family issue and should be treated as such.
