Actor and director Robert Redford has put his 30-acre horse ranch in Utah, which was informally named after his 1998 movie “The Horse Whisperer,” on the market for $4.9 million

, who turned an area of north-central Utah into a ski and lifestyle empire, is selling a 30-acre horse ranch nearby that was informally named after his 1998 movie “The Horse Whisperer.”

Horse Whisper Ranch is about 16 miles north of Sundance, the ski and resort community Mr. Redford started. It is seeking $4.9 million, according to marketing materials. Mr. Redford bought the property in 1996 asto exercise during the winter, said Compass’s Steve Mavromihalis, who is listing the property with Jaisa Bishop of Windermere Utah.

“For the last 25 years, my family and I have loved and embraced this ranch as a base for our horse program, running clinics and serving as a home for our many beloved horses,” Mr. Redford, 84, said in an email. “Looking ahead, we want to focus on expanding the facilities at our ranch located at Sundance in nearby Provo Canyon.” Mr. Redford also has homes in California and Santa Fe, N.M., Mr. Mavromihalis said.

Located at the northern edge of Deer Creek Reservoir and the Provo River, the property has views of Mount Timpanogos. Property records don’t disclose how much Mr. Redford paid. The working ranch has seven structures, including a modest, 1,460-square-foot farmhouse with two bedrooms. There is also a nearly 2,000-square-foot wood shop, 3,200-square-foot garden hobby house, boat garage, hay barn, covered four-stall breezeway run, covered horse stalls, along with a training ring and pastures.
