Capital city lockdowns will deliver a $2.5 billion economic blow. Businesses say the vaccine rollout needs to expand as small firms face long-term pain. | swrighteconomy

The lockdowns of Sydney, Perth and Brisbane are likely to cost the economy $2.5 billion with businesses demanding the federal government dramatically ramp up vaccine deliveries or face the demise of countless mum-and-dad operations across the country.

“The idea you can keep going like this for another two years is very difficult for business to get their mind around,” she said. “There’s got to be a reward for being vaccinated, there’s got to be a benefit for being vaccinated,” she said. Australian Retailers Association CEO Paul Zahra says nationally consistent lockdown rules are now required.AMP Capital chief economist Shane Oliver said the cumulative cost of the current lockdowns would be at least $2.5 billion.“While we estimate a hit to economic activity from the Sydney lockdown alone of about $2 billion if it’s contained to two weeks, much of that will likely be recouped upon reopening,” he said.

swrighteconomy Blame Morrison and the Liberal Party. Should have ordered a range of vaccines as other countries did and should have built quarantine facilities months ago. At the next election kick them out. If you are business remember what the Liberals have cost you.

swrighteconomy Me thinks that is the real political intention.

swrighteconomy And we’ll keep doing this, on and on, with no plan, while the rest of the world gets back to normal. Thanks ScottMorrisonMP GregHuntMP DanTehanWannon JoshFrydenberg

swrighteconomy Yeah but when you consider the gains in productivity from working from home, it pretty well evens out.

swrighteconomy Lol, who cares about capitalists.

swrighteconomy Pain or ruin? International border closure since March 2020 is also a huge factor. We've not adapted to the fact there there are fully vaccinated people and that, there are vaccines now.

swrighteconomy So it’s not Dan’s fault then!

swrighteconomy Now the serious part of pandemic emerging. Remember that 6 years post Spanish Flu in 1920’s world collapsed into Great Depression. Repeat should not be underestimated

swrighteconomy Scomo = Slowmo

swrighteconomy So you've finally worked out that these lockdowns are happening because the Feds ****** up the vaccine leaving the states with no choice.
