Amplats subsidiary, Modikwa Platinum Mine, which it owns jointly with African Rainbow Minerals, had accused Zijin’s Nkwe Platinum of encroaching on its land in Maandagshoek village while it only had rights to mine in the Ga-Ratau and Leolo villages.
Amplats spokesperson, Jana Marais, said: “Modikwa has noted the judgment handed down last week. Nkwe Platinum has also invested more than R14.5 million in an adult training and education centre, internships and bursaries, which have benefited local communities.“In October last year, the second generation social and labour plan was approved, which will see further local economic development projects in the form of clean water supply over the next few years. The water project has already commenced with the supply of tanks and re-equipping of boreholes,” Zhiyu said.
