KUALA BESUT, Aug 8 — The presence of tourists in Pulau Perhentian provides a good source of income for resort owners and petty traders on the island, but things have changed since the Covid-19 pandemic hit the country.
“Previously, I would use 25kg of wheat flour to make various types of sweetmeats, as well as bread and puff, which were sold out in two or three hours. “The situation now is so bad that I have to pawn some of my jewellery for cash to support my family. Some of my children are working in the tourism industry, but now they are out of job and have no income as there is no tourist,” she added.
