NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller will tighten rules around the COVID-19 singles bubble and people exercising as part of a renewed push to slow the spread of the Delta strain

NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller will tighten rules around the COVID-19 singles bubble and people exercising as part of renewed push to slow the spread of the Delta strain as it slowly engulfs the state.

As NSW reported 345 new local cases on Thursday, Premier Gladys Berejiklian said Mr Fuller would lead a renewed, amid increasing reports of people deliberately contravening the public health orders and abusing exemptions. Police are expected to change the rules for the singles bubble and for people exercising at the beach.Mr Fuller and NSW Police Minister David Elliott have been increasingly concerned about people not complying with the public health orders, and raised their concerns at a crisis cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

Ms Berejiklian said, while the new LGAs were geographically smaller areas, the increasing number of cases relative to their population size was a cause for concern. A leading epidemiologist who advises the federal government says Sydney will likely endure hundreds of cases each day for the next month with the impact of vaccination not felt for at least another four weeks.

The “reproduction number” or R0 is currently 1.07, which Professor McCaw said has been steady for the past two weeks. While that number stays above one, cases will only continue to increase, he said.“The absolute best-case scenario is that that gets down to about 100 a day in the next month, but it will be another month after that, at least, to get the numbers down to single digits.

Will he lock any non-compliant citizens in a marble room and randomly open fire, then hide behind his union?

It makes no sense walking on a crowded footpath with a mask . Then to have a jogger run past way too closely with no mask on and puffing over everyone.

“A few cases breaking the rules” doesn’t get you to 250 unlinked cases

The vaccines don’t stop the spread, lockdowns don’t stop the spread. Let’s just let it go and get on with it

Oh god not beach hysteria again!

Tinder bubbles

just as well the military is doing it for MICK

People need to get out and exercise. No correlation at all of people at the beach and exercising. Maintain social distances and wear a mask.

And so it begins… 🤦‍♂️

lisazdavies Quick question: why is your paper using a grotesquely long lens to lie about crowd size in this picture?

People can exercise in the lounge room. Just look at the crap happening at the beach.... Stop screwing girls at the train station and do your job

Was that a photo of Bondi today?

Ohh no Chief Wiggum will now release the hounds in western Sydney 😯

To little to late

How about he puts police on all roads leading in & leading out. Only ones allowed in & out are essential services.

Good to see they are moving quick on this 😏😵‍💫😵‍💫

Isn’t he Scrote’s bin guy?

Hmmmm masks outdoors, and a 5 km limit from your home will do more.

Haven’t the police got anything better to do than interfere with exercise in outdoor settings where there is little or no risk of transmission? COVID19nsw lockdownSydney GladysClusterfuk

We need a hard lockdown statewide it’s spreading too much now

As most Police officers have low IQ’s and are basically thugs, it’s not going to end well.

So you use a deceptively foreshortened image of people exercising in a manner consistent with the Public Health Order to illustrate this?

Can you start with the ones running and basically breathing like dogs on your neck? Glebe foreshore, Bondi etc.

I live in Manly. It's a nice place like Bondi (pictured). People from the wider community covet these places to walk, surf, hang out. Yes, it gets crowded but we locals are used to it. If you are worried about Covid and crowds, avoid these areas please and stay home.

Conspiracy theories playing out in real time.

Police chief is doing Gladys' job! At least, he has a proper mind set.

They have to stop long lense shots of a 1km promenade as proof of not socially distancing.

At least we know when covid over we can sack half the police force. They just have been sitting on there bums doing FA if they have this much time to worry about someone exercising. No wonder no one likes them

Can’t he just put Scott’s bins out?

Slowing the spread is good. But spoken by someone from the US that’s lived with this all along, once it’s around it will remain. Best to focus on bolstering people’s health and early treatment. Vaccines won’t stop people getting it or spreading it.

This is really shit reporting guys First you reach for the hyperbole with ‘soaring’ - cases up by 1 today, down 12 the day before 🤔 Then you write about Bayside and separately ‘Bexley, Rockdale & Banksia’ as if it’s a different area These ARE Bayside you tools. Be better

I think its called 'the cats is out of the bag' or 'too little to late'..

Ah yes, singles and exercising, that’s where the virus is spreading… Absolute muppets. GladysB has handed over power to the nswpolice, people should be very concerned about this.

It’s really great how the police are now writing laws. That never ended poorly, did it.
