Nigerian filmmakers have lamented the huge disparities between the rates offered by United States-based streaming platform, Netflix, for Nigerian films and those of their Asian and European industries.
Since its foray into Nigeria, the streaming giant has taken a firm grip on the country's movie industry, with many movie producers now more interested in having their projects on the platform than cinemas, the Verge reports.Commenting on this, Moses Babatope, managing director of FilmOne Entertainment, the country’s trendiest distribution operation said the situation is caused by lack of enough funds for Nigerian filmmakers.
“How much production budget are these filmmakers working with? I don’t believe any passionate filmmaker will willingly drop standards if there is finance to work with.” But in comparison, Netflix plans to spend $500million on films and series produced in South Korea this year alone, the same amount the company announced it spent making and licensing content in the United Kingdom in 2019.
netflix What do they expect when we can produce a movie in a fee days? 🤔
netflix This is click bait. If you read the article it says that they plan to spend $500 million for the year, not a single movie, and not for licensing. This is outrightly misleading
netflix To me the $90m is too much sir
netflix WHAT A KIND OF REACTION IS THAT?, WHEN IT IS GLARING THAT ASIAN AND EUROPEAN MOVIES CAN NOT IN ANYWAY BE COMPARE TO EACH OTHER.. NOLLYWOOD WILL MAKE A MOVIE WITHIN 30 DAYS, WHILE EUROPE AND ASIAN ARE MAKING A MOVIE FOR YEARS WITH QUALITY MATERIALS AND LOCATION.
netflix You should even be happy they gave you something, with the rubbish home videos you lots produce . You don't even deserve $1. Useless Nollyrubbish industry where they only make films that denigrate our culture. Only in nollywood you will see Jesus defeat a Traditional herbalist
netflix Na lie
netflix African do not appreciate their status in the international committee of nations, most Nigerians leave Nigeria and for the first time experience what racism is. There's nothing racist about this news but my point is anything of african origin has lowest value in the world.
netflix Nollywood movies are produced within hours just to make quick cash producers don't spend to make quality movies seriously speaking I think they don't even deserve the 90k because it's only in a Nollywood movie you see someone thinking and while he thinks he is still thinking .
netflix Nollywood should be grateful for that much offered, they are wack and has no educative intuitive story lines, it's always blood money, occultism or wonder miracles they really should all go back to school
netflix People will patronize your market, the way it's branded!!
netflix It’s overpriced at that amount sef!
netflix Another clock baiting headline that doesn't take into consideration the objective, pragmatic reason behind perceived disparity in offers made by Netflix for movies made across continents, where disparity in popularity, substance, commercialisation, market sentiments are factors.
netflix Why won’t they offer less with their non or bare edited movies.😩😩😩
netflix How much be 1 house? Na wa o netflix make una fear God😬
netflix Out of 10 nollywood movies on Netflix you can only count 1 to be really international standard and enjoyable, they upload anything and everything on Netflix
netflix Can you imagine?
netflix It is a result of bad leadership, I hope they use this funds to develop nollywood
netflix Yeah Nollywood keep making juju and ritual movie all season all year, hoping for international interest.
netflix It’s nothing fair but where’s the quality that Nollywood wants to spend $500million on ?! They judged us based on our outputs. Laslas producers for embezzle the money! This is not a Netflix issue but a Nigerian problem.
netflix 😆
netflix Why won't they, compare what they use in shooting one movie then compare with ours even their low budget is manageable. I'm not saying we don't have good ones, but look at it internationally, you go gree
netflix when you keep acting nonsense movies what do you expect?
netflix Keep begging the white man. Black people are the same everywhere
netflix Apart from the extremely low budget movies produced by nollywood, another factor is that how many audience deos nollywood movies have on Netflix compared to Asian and European movies .... How many Nigerians dey even subscribe to Netflix sef .... just a handful
netflix That’s racist
netflix This is actually a wakeup call for nollywood movies producers partnering with Netflix.. More Awesome Nollywood movies, More Nigerians using Netflix, then fight go start 😂😂😂
netflix Can they spend the same amount of money they use in producing those movies?
netflix Nollywood have got to do better though if the want to be competitive. Although the pay difference is too much but then again, so is the creative between the two movie industries.
netflix The gap is way too much
netflix So you want them to pay millions for a movie you shot with just a couple of hundreds? Lol... Like you don't see productions of the said country and compare them to yours. 😂😂😂
netflix Nollywood, where you go see one particular house and location in about 5 different movies. Nollywood, where films are made within 2 days. Abeg!!!
netflix To be honest 90k for those Nollywood movies on Netflix is overpriced. You can't compare them with any English or Asian movie. Besides Asian movies have international audience unlike us.
netflix For movies like 3 thieves and other low budget nollywood movies 🎥 on Netflix that i do ⏭ skip
netflix They wanna pay $90,000 for this
netflix Dem no fit rate us, Buhari don too borrow frome them... Lmao
netflix And btw you can do better than this. You can’t keep telling us to read more about stories and then lead us to an unsecured website. You’re bigger than this.
netflix All they’re saying is “take it or leave it.”
netflix No way this is insult they should back out what did this people think they are
netflix You mean those brother jekwu Nollywood movies? That was produced with camcorder
netflix Who rates us any longer? Besides people watch European films more, including Africans, we don't rate ourselves too
