Representatives of the entertainment and events industry were "deeply disappointed" with the outcome of a meeting with Minister for Arts Catherine Martin yesterday.
Speaking on RTÉ's Morning Ireland, Dan MacDonnell of the Event Industry Alliance said they are continuing to push for the safe re-opening of live indoor events from 1 September for the fully vaccinated and for the extension of pandemic support for the sector until June 2022. He said that while he felt sorry for the position Minister Martin has been left in, and while she is fighting, the outcome "is not good enough".
I get the sense MichealMartinTD thinks the arts sector is a “nice to have” when in fact it is a driver of economic growth, social cohesion and personal well being. People in the sector need it to reopen but the country needs the sector to reopen too.
Who cares about the entertainment and events industries? Main thing is, that elite can party at Merrion hotel anytime they want!
NI opened but infection fates, hospital & ICU matching the Republic. UK fully open & hospital rates 6k+. Infection rates 30k+ a day. They have now tracked popular holiday destinations & festivals as leading to covid spikes. Holland closed festivals after covid spikes.
