JOHOR BARU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained a former Johor civil servant officer for allegedly abusing his power and position in awarding contracts to companies that he owned.

It was learnt that following investigations, the 35-year-old suspect, while working as an administrative assistant in the state government office, had allegedly used his position as secretariat in the quotation committee.

The suspect allegedly obtained toner printing supply work worth approximately RM1.03mil by falsifying the ownership details of three companies, which he owned, between 2016 and 2019. The suspect was detained by the anti-graft body at around 11.30am on Sunday at the Johor MACC office to help with the ongoing investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009, which carries a fine of five times the sum involved or RM10,000 or whichever is higher and imprisonment not more than 20 years upon conviction.
