Security review ordered into takeover of graphene firm Perpetuus

Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng has told the Competition and Markets Authority to investigate the takeoverKwasi Kwarteng has told the Competition and Markets Authority to investigate the planned takeover of Perpetuus by a company called Taurus International and a Chinese academic.

Graphene has previously been described as a "wonder material", stronger than diamond and flexible like rubber - despite being one of the thinnest materials in the world.In the 2D-material graphene, carbon atoms are arranged in a honeycomb structure Perpetuus says on its website that it has used its technology to strengthen goods such as bicycle and car tyres, for example.

The CMA has, however, also been instructed to investigate the involvement of Chinese academic Dr Zhongfu Zhou, "or any enterprise associated with him or the company" in the takeover.
