Local lawmakers in Portland, Oregon, are set to vote on an 'emergency resolution' on Wednesday to ban the city's procurement of goods and services from the state of Texas in the wake of its restrictive new abortion law.

Portland’s proposed resolution banning trade with and travel to Texas is a direct response to Texas’ new abortion law.Local lawmakers in Portland, Oregon, are set to vote on an"emergency resolution" on Wednesday to ban the city's procurement of goods and services from the state of Texas in the wake of its restrictive new abortion law.

"The ban will be in effect until the state of Texas withdraws its unconstitutional ban on abortion or until it is overturned in court," a statement from Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler's office said of the resolution.Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler speaks to the media at City Hall, Aug. 30, 2020, in Portland, Ore.

Texas' new abortion law, which went into effect last Wednesday, bans physicians from providing abortions if a fetal heartbeat is detected . This can happen as early as six weeks into a pregnancy. While the law prohibits the state from enforcing the ban, it instead authorizes private citizens to bring civil suits against anyone who"aids or abets" an abortion -- which can even include a driver taking someone to a clinic.

A spokesman for the city council declined ABC News' request for further comment Tuesday on how they will seek to enforce the resolution.

The streets must fill with pink hat wearing citizens.

Good! We will never give our $$$ to any business from repubtards

Your kidding me right? This won't get Texas to change anything Its like I'm not talking to you because you hurt my feelings

It’s not like you don’t have a full 6 weeks to murder your own child. What the hell is wrong with people in this country

So your going to hurt the economy in Oregon even more wow good thing I'm moving out of that quack state

Im sure they are just as serious about banning procurement of goods and services from China and every other country in the world with far more egregious human rights violations than standing up for the rights of those in utero.

Why would anyone want to visit Texas anyway? It's also one of the fattest state in America. They can't even put the barbeque down for one minute and eat salad.

Like Texas gives a rip! Portland’s days of having anything to offer anything of value are over! Keep your Liberal views, people and goods there! Whatever disease you crazy people have, we don’t want it in Texas!

Seriously WTF is wrong with the people in Portland.

isolate Texas, making this state no food no water no drug, no everything

😂Easy to see why Portland has become a disaster! Idiots in charge! So...they will hurt small companies by not buying from them.👌 Brilliant!👎
