JOHOR BARU: Fourteen individuals involved in cheating telecommunication companies, which suffered RM8.609mil in losses, have been nabbed by police.

Johor police chief Comm Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said the members of the syndicate had been operating since January this year.He said the syndicate paid agents RM150 for each person they recruited to be mules."They would then be brought to the telecommunication company's outlets to register for a package that includes a free phone," he said in a press conference at the Johor police headquarters here on Thursday .

"The telecommunication companies started to realise that they have been scammed after credit card payments for the phones were declined by banks.He noted the 14 suspects arrested, who are between the ages of 19 and 38 years old, include mules involved. "We have identified the mastermind, whose last address was at Kampar, Perak as well as his two right-hand men," he said.
