Former finance minister Tito Mboweni has rubbished the idea of separating the Western Cape from the rest of SA.

The retired minister said the proposal will only further divide the country, saying SA is a “united country and not a federal state”. “We need to politically deal with this Cape Independence group quickly. The DA must clearly pronounce themselves on this,” We need to politically deal with this Cape Independence group quickly. The DA must clearly pronounce themselves on this. Nip it in the bud. We are one United country. Not a Federal State.

Steenhuisen said people should focus on other things, like policing, taxation and water and electricity policies, instead of trying to break the province away from the rest of the country. “We’ve said we don’t support Cape Independence, but people should have a right to a referendum to make choices going forward. We believe in a devolution of power to provinces,” “We think fighting for [Cape] independence is a waste of energy. What we should be doing is focusing on fighting for more powers [at a local level] for policing, transport, economic development, taxation, local government, water and electricity.

I don't support it BUT how can you fault it when there doesn't seem to be any strong dominant will among leaders, in general, to nip in the bud rampant corruption and incompetence in the country. Some pple just want to get on with their lives and turn their backs on foolish games

It will happen so long afriforum and the da want it. Under the new dawn their policies are easily implimented.

I would too. The Western Cape would become the financial powerhouse of Southern Africa. Leaving a big revenue shortfall for the ANC government that would cripple them.

They were supposed to take it from apartheid first not a chance they can leave our country to Australia maybe they will get a portion for Boers,or they can simple move to Orania
