Rural Development Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said the plant is crucial for investing companies in the area to start operating as soon as possible.

Mahdzir said KRC had attracted RM2bil in investments from two companies manufacturing rubber-based products.

“I hope Kedah Government can speed up the process of building a water treatment and supply plant because I am worried that when the companies move in, the plant is not ready. “In the rubber industry, we need a lot of water,” he told reporters after handing over Mara Liner new buses at the company’s workshop in Kuala Nerang recently.KRC, spanning 503ha, is the first national status rubber industrial park project in Malaysia undertaken by the state government in collaboration with Northern Corridor Implementation Authority .

The project, which is expected to attract investments worth RM10bil, has the potential to create 14,500 job opportunities in various levels of expertise. Mahdzir, who is Padang Terap MP, also urged the state government to expedite land acquisitions to enable the project to be implemented smoothly.“For Padang Terap, there is not enough electricity supply as 33 kilovolts is being consumed and we will need 132 KV after this.Article type: metered
