Most of the agricultural industry associations have their own commitments to net-zero – they just want government to create the policy structure to enable them to achieve it, according to the Grattan Institute’s Energy Program Director Tony Wood.

It comes as Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s plan for net zero emissions by 2050 will be presented to cabinet on Wednesday morning – ahead of the Glasgow climate summit.

“From the agricultural industry, most of the industry associations – cattle and so forth – are saying we can get net-zero by even earlier, by 2030-2040 – we want to get moving on this,” he told Sky News Australia.“So all these things could come together if the government gets it right – because they’ve got industries and farmers are actually all on side.”
