Motor industry pushes back against federal government’s electric vehicle plans | Laura_R_Chung

Electric car manufacturers have pushed back against the federal government’s strategy to increase electric cars by 2030, saying there are large gaps in the policy that need to be addressed., particularly in regional Australia, to help manage the transition towards a 1.7 million electrified national fleet and significantly cut pollution levels in the transport sector over the next decade.

“NSW has a world-class EV adoption policy; Victoria has the world’s worst. Zero and low emission vehicles ownership is encouraged on one side of the Murray and taxed on the other,” the spokesman said. “The auto industry works on long planning lead times, so we need these decisions today to impact planning cycles for cars that are still five plus years away. Without these clear assumptions, original equipment manufacturers will have uncertainty for the required production volumes and development requirements for a market like Australia.”

But on Tuesday, Prime Minister Scott Morrison said he was not against electric vehicles, rather he had an issue with “governments telling people what to do and what vehicles they should drive and where they should drive them, which is what Bill Shorten’s plan was ... and our policy takes a different approach.”

Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese said the government had changed its tune on electric cars in the lead-up to an election campaign.

Laura_R_Chung Will be good in Cities but problematic in Rural areas until range limits can be overcome.

Laura_R_Chung Can you believe this?! Lying Scott Morrison: 'Electric vehicles were part of OUR policy at the last election, they just weren't part of the Labor Party's policy.' Yep, he just said that!!

Laura_R_Chung Always someone complaining

Laura_R_Chung I recently read 2 of 3 car drivers don't live with a garage they can use to charge vehicles whilst at home.

Laura_R_Chung Should read: Australian taxpayer pushes back against federal government’s electric vehicle plans.
