The COP26 failed to wrap up its business by 6pm on Friday and spilled on to Saturday

Compromises by countries, some of which had earlier raised concerns and argued several issues included in the draft deal of the summit, are believed to have driven the gathering of nearly 200 countries to an end.It had also taken interventions by some delegates, who urged their colleagues to work harmoniously with COP26 president Alok Sharma to work together.

Things appeared to have improved amid, tension which appeared to have been overpowered by compromise.COP26: Rich countries urged to ‘open their hearts and loosen their purse strings’ The country has already received a boost to this in the form of R131 billion offered as part of a partnership between the European Union, Germany, US, UK and France to help it in its just transition to a low-carbon and climate resilient economy.Meanwhile, not everyone was happy with how commitments and planned actions were expressed in draft documents.

Reacting to some of the COP26 outcomes, Greenpeace International executive director Jennifer Morgan said what mattered the most was that “a signal has been sent that the era of coal is ending”.She added that the “line on phasing out unabated coal and fossil fuel subsidies is weak and compromised, but its very existence is nevertheless a breakthrough, and the focus on a just transition is essential”.

The summit agreed that developed countries should “at least double their collective provision of climate finance for adaptation to developing country parties from 2019 levels by 2025, in the context of achieving a balance between mitigation and adaptation in the provision of scaled-up financial resources”.
