Equality in pension age will not magically deliver equal pay or lifelong earnings power – the new rules entrench unfairness, says Anne Perkins, former deputy political editor of the Guardian

Women’s state pension age is equalized with men today. Their state pension income will not be equal for at least 20 years.

We did know.

How about men retire earlier? We live shorter lives and work longer hours. How is that 'equal'. You're a bunch of well intentioned meddlers who don't care about equality for a minute because you'd see its a pipe dream. Nothing is ever equal outside a tiny community/family.

'From this date, 6 November 2018, women and men must both be 65 before they can claim their state pension. Naturally, it is important that women and men be treated equally, except that’s not what’s happening.' That's exactly what is happening - equal retirement age!

So she only wants equality when it benefits her?
