Big changes are coming to Call of Duty

, Activision has made the decision that there will not be a Call of Duty release in 2023.

While the 2022 Modern Warfare game remains on track, that game will be supported in full for two years ahead of a new game in 2024. This would mark the series taking a year off for the first time since 2005, where there has been a new COD release every year, every holiday, since then. The reason? Again, there was a lot of speculation that this was a Microsoft-led decision, and that COD would move to not being annual under them. But the report makes it clear that this was not Microsoft, but rather a response to the uncharacteristically poor performance of Call of Duty Vanguard, a rare large miss for the series in 2021.the games, as players may stick with their favorite as opposed to moving to the next one, or more recently, just opt to play Warzone instead.
