KwaZulu-Natal police are investigating a murder case after a learner was fatally stabbed outside a school in Pinetown, west of Durban. It’s alleged that a 16-year old learner stabbed a fellow student in the stomach following an altercation after school.

Police spokesperson Nqobile Gwala, “It’s alleged that a 15-year-old boy was stabbed in the stomach after a verbal altercation. The 15-year-old was then taken to hospital where he later died and the 16-year-old suspect was placed under arrest. The knife that was used in the commission of the offense was seized by police. The suspect will appear in court next week.”The Free State Education Department has called for calm at Wessel Maree secondary school in Odendaalsrus after it suspended a teacher.

This after a video emerged depicting the teacher violently pushing a learner. The department’s spokesperson Howard Ndaba says an investigation has been launched into the incident. Ndaba says the department condemns acts of violence, bullying, corporal punishment and racism at schools.
