Andrew Augustin is calling for more diversity in the gaming industry.

AUSTIN, Texas — Andrew Augustin has a vision to create characters, themes and stories in the video game industry that will represent gamers of the next generation.

“I could be time to expand and get all different kinds of tales from different countries and cultures that we really don’t get to hear about because we’re still hearing the same ol’ stories over and over again,” said Augustin.

“It isn’t just saying we’re hiring more Black people, more women, more minorities — it’s deeper than that. Me being a teacher for three years, I realized we are not really exposed to these industries at minority majority schools,” said Augustin. The International Game Developers Association reported in 2005 that just 2% of its respondents identified as Black. In 2021, 16 years later, the report shows a growth of only 4% in the industry.
