Shutdown begins at CP Rail as two sides continue to negotiate:

The Canadian PressAn employee boards a Canadian Pacific Railway locomotive at a yard in Calgary on Friday. The Teamsters Canada Rail Conference, which represents some 3,000 engineers, conductors, yard workers, and other train employees, issued a release just before midnight saying a lockout was being initiated by management at the Calgary-based railway.

The union then issued a subsequent release which said that in addition to the lockout, Teamsters Canada Rail Conference members were also on strike at CP throughout the country with picketing underway at various Canadian Pacific locations. Update: The work stoppage has begun, but CP and Teamsters are still at the table with federal mediators. Parties are working through the night. We are monitoring the situation closely and expect the parties to keep working until they reach an agreement.

TCRC spokesperson Dave Fulton called the turn of events "disappointing" saying the railway must be "taken to task" for this decision.

Justin and his friends get a raise. Why not these guys

Watch out Justin will send the cops at you for protesting

CP wants the government to settle it's labour problem for them. Using what going on in the world to its own profit is not Canadian. Get back to negotiate and settle NOW.

Unions should be illegal. Time to enact the War Measures act and bust some heads. In the mean time send in the scabs! The. Hire the scabs full time!

People are barely able to buy food and pay rent, seniors are suffering…and the Teamsters are going for more SHAME ON THEM - morally bankrupt! CP rail should be owned by the gov’t and mandated back to work or get another job like the the poor souls making minimum wage.

Well we still have the emendation in place, this strike/lockout will damage the economy more than a few truckers downtown Ottawa, but liberals are silent as usual.

Do you ever see oil patch workers in strike?

assholes! Shit is already bad enough you pricks!

It seems 51% of the rail lines of Canada should be owned by Canada and considered no less important than the subway systems of major cities. This is the second shut down since the start of Covid and seems, an essential service of the Canadian economy.A share split on the horizon?

This world is in a mess !

Trudeau should invoque the Emergency act.

Again?

Sorry but essential service. Spring planting this needs to get resolved now!
