Dollywood closes a free-fall ride after a teen’s death in Florida.

Dollywood has closed its free-fall ride, Drop Line, for investigation in the wake of a teen's death on a similar ride in Florida.Dollywood has closed down its free-fall ride temporarily following the death of a 14-year-old on a similar ride in Florida last week.

“Although Dollywood does not have the specific ride involved in this tragic incident, the safety of our guests is our top priority,” Dollywood officials said in a statement Saturday. “Out of an abundance of caution, and until further details about the accident at ICON Park are known, we have temporarily closed Drop Line, our drop tower ride that was developed by the same manufacturer.”

On Thursday, 14-year-old Tyre Sampson plummeted from the Orlando Free Fall ride upon its rapid descent. Sampson was rushed to the hospital, where he died from his injuries.According to the Associated Press, the Orlando Free Fall is 430 feet tall with a max speed of more than 75 mph and holds 30 passengers. It is billed as the world’s tallest free-standing drop tower.

, by comparison, is 230 feet tall with a max speed of 78 mph and holds 24 passengers. It opened in May 2017..
