To executives, price hikes are unavoidable during this time. To liberals, companies that are raising prices for beer, chicken, toys, gasoline and medicine are just using inflation as an excuse to pad record profits and to reward Wall Street.

approached 100 percent, said refusing to raise prices or cut spending in response to rising input costs would cripple a company.Growing profits mean funds for research, new product development, marketing and wages, he said. Shrinking profits mean less money for all of that — and greater pressure to reduce costs, including by laying off workers.

As supply chains were overwhelmed during the first year of the recovery, the company’s annual costs ballooned by $2.8 billion. Raw materials and shipping were the chief culprits, coupled with unfavorable foreign exchange movements.Chief financial officer Andre Schulten told investors in February that the price hikes were “tailored” to conditions governing product categories, geographic markets or even individual “SKUs,” the bar codes that designate specific items.

“They’re pricing to protect profits, not to increase profits,” Lauren Lieberman, consumer products analyst for Barclays, said. Bahnsen dismissed the idea that consumers are hurt by the company’s shareholder focus. Customers stick with the consumer products giant out of “brand loyalty,” he said. If P&G increases prices unreasonably, it risks driving its customers into the arms of brand-name competitors or less expensive private-label store brands.

But a limited number of players is not the same as a lack of competition, according to Jeffrey Meli, head of research for Barclays. Diapers, he said, represent “a cutthroat market that is still contested.”

This is a lie. I live in Pennsylvania and fuel prices have come down or stayed consistent. Biden has opened the oil reserves. But what have oil companies done? Nothing.

To 'liberals'? How about to 'anyone with more than half a brain paying attention'.

Why not the liberals start up their own business and set their own price or protest that the president implement policies that will ease the cost of doing business thereby lowering prices. Liberals always feel entitled to something without paying their fare share of price

It to keep their tax cuts by getting people angry and voting republican

Record profits while raising prices to record levels. Nothing to see here.

Absolutely. Riddle me this batman, why has inflation hammered up the price of rental cars? Really? Drivers pay for fuel.

Thank you Biden, you have given corporation's the tools they needed

Wait! This is an article & not opinion? So there's no corporate greed at play here? The price hikes are justified? I call BS You gave it away: 'After years of balking at higher prices, consumers now are swallowing them.' That's because we're told it's inflation, but it's not

Democrats are correct

Inflation is caused by the party in power. Biden blames everything that he broke as being anyone else’s fault but his. So you fell for his blame game again

This is a false tweet. One or the other is truth- not opinion

'The corporate assault on US workers’ living standards during the pandemic intensified in 2021. While inflation slashed living standards for most of the population, corporate profits surged to their highest levels in decades, rising 25 percent year over year to $2.81 trillion.'

Lol I’m sure your boss Jeffery bezos has nothing to do with this wapo

I guess Washington Post is now running interference for big corporations while those same corporation brag in their earnings calls about how they aren’t leaving “anything on the table” to justify price hikes and record profits. This is how you misinform people

That framing is a helluva lot more sympathetic to the price-gougers than it is the people accusing the price-gougers of price gouging.

So now not wanting to be ripped off by oil companies is also partisan, accd to the . Are you capable of reporting facts without this partisan BS, or no?

'To liberals'

I guess liberals must now mean people who can listen to executives literally say we are raising prices because we can on their investor calls. Either you are stupid or you think we are.

The purpose of journalism is to provide citizens w/ info needed to make the best decisions about their lives, communities, their societies, & their governments. This is literally the opposite of journalism with more “both side” garbage. Pretending everything is unknowable.

Wow WaPo, you've really gone bonkers! Do y'all read this shit before you publish 😳?

Why are you targeting liberals? WTF, Wapo?

What is wrong with you WaPo? Another bs opinion piece disguised as an article. Do you think liberals are the only ones concerned with prices? GTHOH

Okay so everyone who is not a liberal should cease complaining about higher prices.

FoxLite DoBetter Complicit

So are companies that sell beer, chicken, toys, and gasoline having record profits? We can easily see who is right on this one.

How far have the WaPo & nytimes fallen. The former bastions of unbiased, objective journalism are now punchlines.
