In a food and artisan wares market on the outskirts of Darwin, there's very little optimism that either major party has shown it has the capacity to lead the nation through the challenges ahead.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison is expected to call an election any day now.

The outcome will prove which one of the two major parties the Australian public believes is best placed to navigate the challenges of a post-pandemic landscape and to deal with increasing global tensions.On a local Northern Territory level, issues such as roads, education, crime prevention and equality will come to the fore.

"It'll probably come down to the last couple of days, if I can see any promises from anybody," Ms Taft-Goulding said.
