Cases involving people who have been implicated in StateCapture will be prioritised over the next 12 months, according to Director of Public Prosecutions Shamila Batohi.

Speaking during the annual Frederik Van Zyl Slabbert Honourary Lecture, Batohi says the National Prosecuting Authority will be focussing on prosecuting cases of grand corruption during this period. The annual lecture pays homage to the late Slabbert, who was an anti-apartheid activist, critical thinker and former Chancellor of Stellenbosch University.

The theme of Batohi’s address was, ‘Citizen-leadership in South Africa through the lens of accountability – action and service.’ She says a well-functioning justice system is critical for building a healthy country and a thriving economy.

She says state capture has had a devastating effect on service delivery and has severely impacted the poor.and the economic cost has been estimated to be about R 1.5 trillion and this is almost the equivalent of government’s annual expenditure so it is an insane amount of money and the impact of this on service delivery, which disproportionately affects the poor and the vulnerable is devastating.”

The annual honorary lecture aims to create a platform for students, leaders, academics and the broader international community, to engage critically on current South African political and governance issues.Share article

Next things will hear, theres shortage of prosecutors, hayi it's tough shame

I would have thought it would have been done already

KeleKetla!

Pray tell what been happening in the past 12 wasted months

Bcos is nearly election 2024😂

But no arrests will be made?🤔🤯🫣

Just in time for December conference 😏😏😏😏😏 yeah right

Including Ramaphosa

It's the year of conference. Cyril Ramaphosa has now instructed the NPA to go after his political enemies. We know this trick, Mbeki tried it and he failed

Mxm! All talk dololo action

Will believe once they appear in court. It's a waiting game. The longest waiting...

12 months? Why? Why not now because you have a report slready?

Conference Shandis.

Gunning...with pop guns?

Yawn. We've heard this bollocks since before Batohi was even appointed. The NPA would rather go after soft targets like the NSFAS lass... less politically damaging than charging an ANC bigwig.

Haven't we had that national anthem before

The AnC conference is the motivating factor. Officers of Gvt systems that will be found pliable to factional fights in AnC must be made to account after this administration. After apartheid this is the most treasonous judiciary system the country has ever had.

Ohhh she is still alive🙄🙄

So that they will step aside before December

🤣🤣🤣

Show don’t tell

Selective prosecuting 🤔
