Thirteen men were caught red-handed while allegedly trying to rob a Benoni transport company.

Gauteng police caught 13 men who allegedly tried to rob a transport company in Benoni.ace charges of robbery, attempted murder, and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

Thirteen men were caught red-handed on Saturday while they allegedly tried to rob a Benoni transport company. Mkhululi Dube, 45; Magoma Sibanda, 42; Victor Vilakazi, 32; Price Ndlovu, 35; Cosmos Ncube, 45; Cabangani Kunene, 38; Wilfred Nguben, 45; Goodman Ndlovu, 36; Tandai Thafirei, 29; Lucas Mazibc, 27; Samuel Mlambo, 43; and Senzo Mpofu, whose age is unknown, were arrested and made their first court appearance on Tuesday.

A 13th man was hospitalised after he was injured while trying to flee from the scene. He cannot be named until he has appeared in court.Sketching the background to the arrests, National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana said police were alerted to the attempted robbery. When they arrived, the men allegedly started shooting at them.One accused is currently in hospital after he sustained injuries when he fell off the palisade fence [while] trying to flee from the crime scene.

The accused face six counts of attempted murder, three counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances, five counts of possession of an unlicensed firearm, and two counts of possession of ammunition."Out of the 13 accused, only Mlambo is legal in South Africa, however, Vilakazi and Ngubeni alleged that they possess South African identity documents, though the Department of Home Affairs is still yet to confirm this," Mahanjana added.
