Netflix crack down on password-sharing is official: Here’s how long it’ll take for the company to introduce the new account-sharing tax.

In addition to our 222 million paying households we estimate that Netflix is being shared with over 100 million additional households, including over 30m in the UCAN region. Account sharing as a percentage of our paying membership hasn’t changed much over the years, but, coupled with the first factor [uptake of connected TVs, adoption of on-demand entertainment, and data costs], means it’s harder to grow membership in many markets — an issue that was obscured by our COVID growth.

I honestly can’t figure out what their plan is for avoiding issues with people that travel regularly and have constantly changing IP addresses for where they log in from. There will be no feasible way to differentiate them from anyone else.

Netflix Preps Bigger Password-Sharing CrackdownIn its quarterly shareholder letter, the company said revenue from reining in password sharing would be a 'big opportunity' going forward. This didn’t age well. They are unlawfully shutting down systems in their paranoia. Warnings were given. Maybe they should invest their time in improving service and keep their clients happy so they don't leave. Might help their company stock.
