Ace Hotel Sydney is due to open within the next two or three weeks – there is no set date – as a flurry of finishing touches are made to the property, located on the city-edge of Surry Hills in Wentworth Avenue.
Originally scheduled to open in October last year, it will be the first luxury hotel launch in the city since Crown Towers Sydney started trading in December 2020, a revised timing that Mr Wilson said may work in its favour.“A lot of the delays had to do with just the process of getting things here, and obviously you’re not rushing to open when the market is still closed,” Mr Wilson said.
Matthew Burke, STR’s regional director Pacific, Central South Asia and Japan, said business was “getting better week on week” and that mid-week trade – dominated by corporate travellers – “has the most room for improvement”.“There’s an interesting thing going on with Americans. If you ask them if they are excited about travelling for leisure, they absolutely are,” Mr Wilson said.“You even ask them ‘would you go internationally for leisure travel?’ and they say ‘yes’.
