Lucas Dow is the persistent pragmatist who has turned Gautam Adani’s big Australian coal dream into a reality.
This is an edited transcript of Dow’s interview with Carbon Challenge ahead of his keynote speech at the Sydney Mining Club.It is about demonstrating to people we have built the mine and rail, and we have shipped our first coal and we are in the final stages of testing and commissioning. I guess it is an opportunity to show the non-believers that it has all actually happened, and we are gearing up to ramp up to full production.
people are in the regions they are supportive of the coal sector and yet when they are in the cities they are not quite as strident or forthright in terms of that support The modelling we have done would see that industry mutual fund be self-sustaining within about five years.We are really looking for the government and the opposition to commit to being able to provide that initial underwriting and backstop.
Coal prices are exceptionally high, so at what stage do you start thinking about expansion of the Carmichael mine?
