New stores are coming in a tight labor market. Will the end of the school year create a new crop of students and teachers looking for work?

The shopping center has addedin the past six months, and the mall wants to help them and its existing stores and restaurants by promoting this Saturday as job fair day.

“What we continue to hear from stores is that they just aren’t fully staffed yet,” said Megan Townsend, Galleria’s director of marketing.This week, the Labor Department said the U.S. had a record 11.5 million job openings in March, and turnover remains historically high. About 4.5 million Americans quit their jobs in March. In February, the most recentsurvey by Goldman Sachs

The Galleria timed the job fair at the end of the school year as high school and college students are thinking about summer jobs, Townsend said. Challenger, Gray & Christmas predicts teens will get 1.3 million jobs in 2022, the same as last year, based on an analysis of Bureau of Labor Statistics since 1998.
