Deregulating the fuel price will not bring prices down but will hurt the already marginal fuel retailers, the industry has warned. | Fin24

Deregulating the fuel price will not bring prices down but will hurt the already marginal fuel retailers, the industry has warned.

The comments come as government faces intense pressure to cushion the blow of high fuel costs, which are taking a toll on consumers. Already the state has temporarily cut the general fuel levy to offer some respite. "So it's not only us, it is all over, and we have to now start to realise that there are many things beyond our control," he said. For example, a credit card transaction cost of 42 cents per litre is absorbed by fuel retailers and is not part of the margin provided for through the fuel price structure.

Illegal trading of fuel, where wholesalers are selling directly to the public without the required licences, is also a matter which Sibiya said is"getting out of hand" and stealing sales volumes from retail service stations.

Fin24 Diesel is deregulated but some stations charge up to R2 +per liter more. Download the PitStops app, which is community-driven, and support those stations who do not nail you. I pay R23.79 at my Caltex. BP close to me R25.63. Get Ucount from Std Bank and get money back.

Fin24 Who are these wholesalers selling direct? AskingForAFriend

Fin24 On top of the fuel levies, Mr 'Fix' wants to introduce even more road and transport related taxes and levies. If the ANC is not removed by 2024, then every South African will have every last cent squeezed from them

Fin24 Imagine being that ignorant comparing SA fuel price to UK fuel price.

Fin24 Remove the road accident fund. It's got nothing to do with fuel. Let Fikile pay for it.

Fin24 If the fuel retailers were so marginal why are there so many filling stations in South Africa?

Fin24 Why are we not purchasing oil from Russia at $86 a barrel?

Fin24 The prices must go down. Whether you deal with deregulation or not, it makes no difference

Fin24 This is true but the reason fuel retailers opened Quickshops ,was to increase their profit margins. Fuel retailers always complained of making less profits from fuel hence quick shops .

Fin24 Like I said before, our government thinks we're a European country, instead of a developing nation. The thing that has hurt this country the most is the R10 per litre of unfair levies, England may pay R32 per litre but they earn in pounds, South Africans earn in Rands!

Fin24 I'm happy to join those who are sharing the good news about Brandonkaren11 I'm not persuading anyone to trade with her but i advise every investor to make the right choice when it comes to Bitcoin mining i got my withdrawal safely without any interruption

Fin24 Propaganda!!!

Fin24 Tax is the problem NOT Retail margins. Stop protecting this over corrupt government.

Fin24 Being the head of the home isn't easy, you are expected to provide for the home, I lost my job during the pandemic and relied on the little money I had, things were hard until I met Williamchurch07 and started Bitcoin trading, I earned R800,000 in 3 weeks thanks Williamchurch07
