Freeport LNG will be offline for weeks, reducing exports that are helping Europe wean itself off of Russian energy.
Melanie Oldham, who lives in Freeport, said she heard three loud bangs Wednesday morning and went outside to find out what was going on. Normally, Freeport LNG exports about 2 billion cubic feet of liquefied natural gas per day, about 15% of the nation’s LNG exports.
