Eskom has selected 18 companies to lease land to develop renewable energy projects.None of the lease agreements have been signed yet, as the companies require environmental impact assessments.Eskom on Thursday confirmed that it had selected 18 companies to lease land to for the development of renewable energy projects.
In a statement, Eskom said that none of the contracts had been signed, as the companies need to obtain environmental impact assessment clearance. "The current projects will bring online a total of 1 800MW generation capacity, once connected," the statement read. "This shows what can be achieved with reduced red tape and the impact of the liberalisation of the energy sector. This additional capacity will be added to the grid without any cost to the taxpayer."

Fin24 I want to know why the western cape is getting the continual blackouts twice a day and Durban is getting none ? Is it because the western cape is ruled y the DA? Is this the punishment we get for being DA

Fin24 if a global asteroid problem hits the planet South Africa will be no more. Get nuclear and gravity ready or perish then. Get with the cosmic program , that kind of energies make your prayers and songs about Holland lowlands irrelevant.
Fin24 R100 per watt for the consumer . Renewable is a hippy fashion stage in culture as we know it. Useless to the real state of things including the planet heating up after ice ages.
Fin24 lease land...?
Fin24 Maybe if Eskom wasn't a monopoly, we'd get somewhere with electrical supply
Fin24 At what cost to Eskom per megawatt compar d to what consumers pay. Does News24 not have an economic desk to give us this analytic view. Never mind, that truth will not bode well with your capitalist stakeholders.
Fin24 'could soon' 🤣
Fin24 We are led by fools in this country 🤞
Fin24 Leasing land sound ominous
Fin24 More debts for ESKOM
Fin24 The operative word being 'could'... we could however loose more generation units to corruption, sabotage and no maintenance! We all know which one of the two are more likely.
Fin24 Another scandal loading , renewables are useless , who keeps on approving them ?
