to find ways to increase U.S. fuel production. It was unclear what if any agreement was reached, but the oil companies expressed optimism on the future of U.S. energy policy.

Thursday's sit down followed months of back and forth between the two sides, with oil executives and lobbyists in part blaming the Biden administration for the run up in oil prices, as they attempt to move the economy away from oil and other fossil fuels even though industries and consumers remains very much reliant on them.

“We need an honest dialogue on how to best balance energy, economic, and environmental objectives,” Wirth said, “one that recognizes our industry is a vital sector of the U.S. economy and is essential to our national security.”
