Mackenzie says that between the ten consortium companies, the NQTPU has "a huge range of sizes of organization, of mandates, of lenses, and that's a great support for artists developing shows as there's a pool of mentors to lean on." Daniel Carter, the Interim Director of Operations and Programming at Buddies In Bad Times in Toronto, is excited about joining forces with the NQTPU because it will give him a chance to read work from artists outside of Toronto.

"That's where the work really lies: in expanding the gen pop's understanding of the intricate web of queerness, and also the fundamental humanity of these stories," he says. "Queer stories are universal stories because they're human. When you look at the consortium of companies in our initiative, of the ten only four of us are queer companies. That feels hugely hopeful.
