Rail haulage companies Aurizon and Pacific National have suspended coal export services in NSW’s Hunter Valley after floods closed rail links.

Rail haulage companies Aurizon and Pacific National have suspended coal export services in NSW’s Hunter Valley after floods closed rail links leading from mines to ports, pushing up coal prices.

Singleton, a town on the edge of the Hunter River that has been inundated with more rain than it experienced in previous heavy rains in March, has also been badly flooded. “Pacific National has lost approximately 140 coal haulage services, the majority being export services,” a company spokeswoman said. This represents about 1.77 million tonnes of coal.
