Rogers CEO Tony Staffieri said 'pretty close to 100 per cent' of the company's network is back online following widespread outages on Friday, which he attributed to a network failure after a maintenance update.

Staffieri told CTV News Channel the cause of Friday's outage was a "network system failure" following a maintenance update done between late Thursday night and early Friday morning.

"These are typically, very routine updates in our core network. That update caused some of the routers in our system to malfunction and that malfunction caused traffic overload. And as a result of that, the whole system just shuts down and the network became inoperable to our customers," he said. "We work through that all of yesterday and through the night to make those changes, so we can move quickly as possible to get the network up," said Staffieri.

I don't give a crap about you Rogers. Our cable is STILL OUT.

The system is not back in Mississauga. No phone, cable, internet, security. Well done Rogers.

rogers system is NOT back online to the full extent. Internet is slow and most HD TV channels are showing “unavailable- please try again later.” And the HD channels with a signal are pixelating so bad as to be unwatchable. Bring in the American providers.

My bet is Roger’s had to pay ransom to get the system operational again. Unfortunately we’ll never know.

3/ You either perform less changes, or build in more redundancy, to avoid such failures that the whole system becomes inoperable. This was entirely avoidable if standards were followed. It smacks of some combination of incompetence or excessively cutting corners financially.

bullshit, it was a ransomeware hack, and they paid, imo.

Maybe too many cutbacks?

Rogers was hacked i hacked into their Main servers and reported them by Thursday night check my pinned tweet

Failure is CRTC's

No Rogers failed it customers. Trying to use technical BS to weasel out of responsibility is wrong. Likely were told previously that this was a problem & decided to risk management the issue & boost CEO earnings.

Quit telling us bullshit!!!!

I love Genesis, am addicted to golf and I generally like everything Scottish so my missing the Genesis Scottish Open Golf is gonna cost Uncle Rogers big time

On the glebe still no internet

Still out in Russell, ON

Lol still without rogers here…. Looks like fake news to me!

I can't call anyone or receive calls 😡

Fixed this: Pretty close to 100% of Rogers customers say they don’t have 100% of Rogers service consistently restored!!

Wonder what 'close to 100%' means? 100% of their shareholders? 100% of their family and friends? Certainly not regular paying customers!

Our phones were on but off again right now, in Norfolk and County of Brant

I'm back on in Kanata, but not consistently. Gone out about 5 times today for about a minute or so.
