Bard on the Beach sues insurer for allegedly failing to provide proper business interruption coverage during COVID\u002D19 pandemic.

Bard on the Beach Theatre Society, which puts on plays at Vancouver’s Vanier Park and boasts an annual attendance of 100,000 for its performances, is suing Ecclesiastical Insurance Office PLC over losses sustained in 2020.

Bard says that in March 2020, it had notified the insurance company of the imminent cancellation of the season and that it would be filing a claim under their insurance policy.Article content When Bard asked for an explanation of the calculation, Ecclesiastical advised that it would only discuss the basis for the figure if Bard first accepted it as being correct, a request that was denied by Bard, according to the writ.Article content

In May this year, Ecclesiastical advised Bard that it would pay Bard the additional sum of $179,000 in partial settlement and discharge of any claims and Bard received the additional sum on June 29, reflecting total payments to date of $279,099, says the lawsuit.
