R12 million to San, Khoi people bodes well for collaboration in rooibos sector: Forestry dept

South Africa's rooibos industry disbursed R12.2 million from a year's worth of farmgate purchases of rooibos to the South African San Council and the National Khoisan Council as part of a 2019 access and benefit-sharing agreement.

"The money received by the Department has been shared equally between the two respective communities with the Khoi-Khoi Peoples Biodiversity and Rooibos Trust and the Andries Steenkamp Access Benefit-Sharing trust each receiving R6 138 961. 25," it said. "Amongst these are partnerships between industry and communities to ensure that our national and international biodiversity commitments are met," Creecy said.
